Foolish hope

I want to write about those moments we catch ourselves waiting for something we have absolutely no reason to expect other than our irrational and foolish hope. The anticipation, the bubbles, the giddiness, and then the depression. How we surprise ourselves, feeling down and frustrated because of how it hasn’t happened yet, how we try to convince ourselves that it doesn’t matter. And how we fail miserably.

We know expectations are irrational but we always have them. We fight against them but they implant a seed in us before we manage to vanquish them. And we’re left waiting for things we’re absolutely certain we have no reason to wait for and yet…we wait.

How funny human behavior is sometimes, how foolish hope is. And yet without it, where would we be?

Lovely!
But maybe hope is not foolish, it could be the small remaining sane part of our brains that still believes in the spark of chaos that runs everywhere and we choose to ignore with the self-imposed order of things we see the world through.

I'm a big fan of hope, and I really like how you put it: "still believes in the spark of chaos that runs everywhere and we choose to ignore with the self-imposed order of things we see the world through."
^that makes a lot of sense.

I guess I'm calling it foolish because of the instances I'm referring to, the heartache we give ourselves because of that hope.
I appreciate your comment.

I've been a fool and lived with that heartache many times and the crazy thing about it is there is no learning curve.

I appreciate your blog :)

Can't decide whether it's us the foolish ones here or the hopes. And oh, are there smart hopes anyways?

@ahmad: it's beautiful don't you think, even with all our disappointments we still manage to have hope over and over again. =)

@Salima: I don't think there is, hope makes us foolish :D
But I hope we're always this foolish.
